2011 Genomic Express Receives CLIA Certification

April 11, 2011

Genomic Express, Inc. has received CLIA certification for its molecular genetics laboratory in Westlake Village, CA.   A Clinical Laboratory License was issued by the California Department of Public Health and a CLIA Certificate of Registration for high complexity testing was issued by the U.S Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  Genomic Express is CLIA certified in Clinical Cytogenetics, subspecialty Molecular Diagnostics.

The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) were implemented by the United States federal government in 1988. It applies to all clinical laboratory testing performed on humans in the United States for the purpose of providing information: (1) for the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of disease or impairment, and/or (2) for the assessment of health. The CLIA system is designed to ensure accuracy and precision of testing, and quality control of laboratory operations.

"We are pleased to receive CLIA certification from both the CMS and the State of California" stated Grant A. Bitter, Ph.D.,  Founder and C.E.O. of Genomic Express, Inc.  "Our Molecular Genetics Laboratory has, in fact, been operating under CLIA standards for several years.  Official certification by both CMS and the State of California will allow us to now add medical genetic tests to our product line."  The first medical tests introduced will be in the area of pharmacogenetics, Dr. Bitter further noted.

(Westlake Village, CA) announced today the introduction of its new genetic counseling service.  Genomic Express is a personalized genomics company that provides genetic tests and other genomic services directly to individuals via the internet (www.GenomicExpress.com).  The company now offers genetic counseling via telephone.  The service is scheduled through the Company's website.

Genomic Express provides extensive information and educational resources on its website to help individuals understand the new field of personalized genomics.  This background information, plus the detailed information provided about each genetic test, helps individuals decide if a test is appropriate for them.  Genomic Express is committed to helping educate individuals about genetics in order that they can make informed decisions and effectively utilize their personal genomic information.  The company now offers genetic counseling to supplement the education resources of its website.

Genomic Express genetic counselors have, in addition to a B.S. degree, an M.S. degree in Genetic Counseling.  They are certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors and the American Board of Medical Genetics.  The topics of consultation are listed on the Company's website and both pre- and post-testing counseling is available.  Individuals who wish to have genetic counseling choose a topic and request a date/time.  A mutually agreeable date and time is arranged through e-mail, and the genetic counseling occurs via telephone.

"We are pleased to be contributing to the new field of personalized genomics by making these genetic resources available directly to individuals via the internet" stated Dr. Grant A. Bitter, President and CEO of Genomic Express, Inc.  "Because personalized genomics is such a new and rapidly growing field, we are committed to providing the information and educational resources necessary for the consumer to understand this new science.  We believe it is important for individuals to understand the basis of personalized genomics before they purchase a genetic test, and to receive comprehensive test reports that fully explain their test result and how the information can be used.  We are pleased to now supplement our information/educational resources with access to qualified genetic counselors.

2008 Genomic Express Launches Internet Website

July 15, 2008

Genomic Express, Inc. (Westlake Village, CA) announced today the launch of the Company's internet website www.GenomicExpress.com.  Genomic Express is a personalized genomics company that provides genetic testing and other genomic services directly to individuals via the internet.

The launch of www.GenomicExpress.com provides a valuable new resource for genomic information.  Genomics and personalized medicine is a new and rapidly developing science that will profoundly affect healthcare and many other aspects of our lives.  Over 1,500 different genes have been scientifically identified for which genetic tests may be developed, and this number will increase dramatically in the future.  Genomic Express offers scientifically and medically validated genetic tests that provide a clear result and are actionable.  There are positive actions individuals can take based on these genetic test results to decrease the likelihood of future health problems or improve many other aspects of their lives.

This decade has witnessed an exponential increase in knowledge of genetics and genomics.  Science magazine, published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), described "Human Genetic Variation" as the breakthrough of the year in 2007.  Recent research has demonstrated the extensive genetic variation that occurs between individuals and gives everyone their unique properties.  This has led to the availability of many new genetic tests and the new field of personalized genomics.

Because personalized genomics is new, Genomic Express provides considerable background information and educational resources to help individuals understand the underlying science.  Visitors to www.GenomicExpress.com are provided the information necessary to understand genetics and genomics, and how knowledge of their own genetics can positively impact their lives.  Detailed information about each genetic test is provided, including a summary of the scientific/medical research which led to development of the test, in order to help individuals decide if the test is appropriate for them.  Individuals who purchase a genetic test through Genomic Express receive, in their personal and secure online account, a comprehensive test result report.  This includes a thorough review and explanation of the scientific basis of the test, including references to the original research publications, and a full explanation of how the individual may take positive actions based on their test result.

"We are pleased to be contributing to the new field of personalized genomics by making these new genetic tests available directly to consumers via the internet" stated Dr. Grant A. Bitter, the founder and CEO of Genomic Express, Inc.  "Because personalized genomics is such a new and rapidly growing field, we are committed to providing the information and educational resources necessary for individuals to understand this new science.  We believe it is important for individuals to understand the basis of personalized genomics before they purchase a genetic test, and www.GenomicExpress.com is intended to fill this need."

2008 Genomic Express Releases Two New Genetic Tests

October 15, 2008

Genomic Express, Inc. (Westlake Village, CA) announced today the introduction of two new genetic tests.  The genetic tests are performed by Genomic Express in its molecular genetics laboratories located in Westlake Village, CA.  Both tests are made available directly to consumers via the Company's website (www.GenomicExpress.com).

The first test provides genetic information regarding one's potential athletic capabilities.  This test evaluates a gene that encodes a protein component of fast-twitch skeletal muscle fibers.  There are two forms of this gene, and substantial scientific evidence now indicates that the particular combination of genes an individual has contributes to his/her athletic ability.  In particular, it can be predictive of exceptional power or exceptional endurance ability.  By undergoing genetic testing for this gene, individuals may be able to choose a sport, event, or field position within a sport, in which they are more likely to excel.  In addition, this knowledge may help in designing optimal training regimes.

The second genetic test characterizes how one metabolizes caffeine.   Caffeine is present in many commonly consumed beverages (coffee, tea, sodas, power drinks) as well as chocolate and other candies.  While there may be some beneficial effects of moderate caffeine consumption, recent medical research has demonstrated some adverse health consequences of caffeine consumption to certain individuals.  Over 95% of ingested caffeine is metabolized by an enzyme encoded by one gene, and there is a very common variant of this gene.  Over 50% of the population have this variant gene, which results in slower caffeine metabolism.  The Genomic Express genetic test determines whether individuals are normal or slow metabolizers of caffeine.  Based on the result of her/his genetic test, individuals may choose to modify their caffeine consumption to reduce the chance of future health problems.

"We are pleased to make these new genetic tests available to the public" stated Dr. Grant A. Bitter, President and CEO of Genomic Express, Inc.  "It is actionable genetic tests such as these offered by Genomic Express that can allow people to live healthier, more productive lives.  We are pleased to be contributing to the new field of personalized genomics, and to be able to make these tests available directly to consumers via the internet."
