Genomic Express staff include research scientists, computational biologists, computer/software engineers, medical and clinical laboratory personnel. Science, Technology and Business

Grant A. Bitter, Ph.D.     Founder, CEO

Dr. Bitter is the founder of Genomic Express, Inc. and has over 30 years experience in the biotechnology industry. He received a B.A. in Biochemistry-Molecular Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and earned his  Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO. He was a Senior Staff Fellow at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD until 1981. Dr. Bitter was a founding scientist and, GAB VCStar 2008.05.31 2from 1981 to 1993, held scientific, product development and research management positions at Amgen, Inc. which grew to be the world's largest biotechnology company. He founded BitTech, Inc, a biotechnology research company, in 1993 and is the President and Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Bitter was awarded, as Principal Investigator, over $2.5 million in competitive, peer reviewed research grants from the U.S. National Insititues of Health. Most of these grants supported research to develop innovative new technologies and methods of genetic testing. Dr. Bitter is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the American Society of Human Genetics. Dr. Bitter has authored over 35 original scientific research articles and is the inventor on numerous patents. He has served as a reviewer for a number of scholarly journals, U.S. National Institutes of Health scientific review panels and has served as an expert consultant for the World Health Organization.

Dr. Bitter has been conducting and leading research projects in the biotechnology industry since its inception. In the last ten years, his laboratory has developed novel technologies that greatly improve the accuracy and reliability of genetic tests. Recognizing the tremendous potential of genetic testing and genomics to improve medical practices, healthcare delivery and many other aspects of our lives, Dr. Bitter formed Genomic Express, Inc. in 2006. Genomic Express facilitates personalized genomics by bringing the power of modern genomic information and technology directly to individuals, and their physicians/healthcare providers, in order that they might be more informed, make better decisions, take control of their own healthcare, and lead a healthier and more productive life. The mission of Genomic Express is to help individuals obtain, understand and maximize the value of their genomic information. 

Vladimir Makarov, Ph.D.     Director, Bioinformatics

Dr. Makarov oversees bioinformatics and computational biology projects at Genomic Express. He earned a B.S. in Biophysics from Moscow Lomonosov State University, M.S. in Chemistry from Northern Illinois University, and a Ph.D. in Computational Biology from Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Makarov held increasingly senior positions and consulted widely in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry during his 20 year career. These have included positions with Ceres, Amgen, Pfizer, Baxter BioScience, Monsanto, Prosapia Genetics, British Telecom Global Services and Illumina. Dr. Makarov also holds an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business and Management, and is currently a Professor in the Mathematics department at California State University Channel Islands.

 

Clinical Staff

M. Lynn Gudehus, B.S., R.N., M.S.W.     Manager, Patient Services

Lynn Gudehus provides clinical support to phyisicians and patients, and provides patient access to genetic counselors when appropriate. She also facilitates efficient Medicare and private insurer reimbursements. Lynn earned her B.S. in nursing from Indiana University and a Masters in social work from Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to joining Genomic Express, Lynn was a practicing nurse and nurse practitioner with a specialty in obstetrics/gynecology.
